Over the past decade the energy and environment have become increasingly interlinked as the consequences of the carbon footprint created by the use of fossil fuels has become much better understood.
Carbon Passport was established by a team of energy industry consultants who run a sister company, Lumis, an international energy consulting practice which advises companies on energy investment projects and on global energy markets.

It was through our research on the emerging carbon market that the Carbon Passport team became aware of the voluntary offsetting market. Many of the offsets being sold were unregulated and of dubious quality. We felt there was a role for a company offering high quality offsets subject to strict independent quality control.
We only sell Certified Emission Reductions (CERs). These are credits produced by carbon saving projects in the developing world, regulated under the United Nation's Clean Development Mechanism.
